YMCA STUDY CENTRE FOR THE RURAL CHILDREN & SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME FOR RURAL YOUTH
Muthupatty is one of the rural villages in Madurai, where 500 poor families are living. The children from these families have no support for education at home. The parents are daily laborers who do hard work, come home late, leaving the children uncared after the school. The children do house hold works, prepare dinner for the family, do washing and cleaning. Studies and homework are their least priority. Naturally they loose interest in studies and are soon become dropouts.
The YMCA identified this pressing need for intervention and initiated an evening study centre at Muthupatty. It creates a comfortable and healthy environment for children to do their homework and get additional support in learning from the tutors. They enjoy the evening play time and the nutritious refreshments. The children are happy, cheerful and motivated to study well. They are confident that their dreams will come true and they will never become dropouts.
The YMCA Madurai also propose to introduce skill training for young dropouts in this village in computer skills for young boys and girls.
This centre organizes women to form self help groups and arrange awareness and life skill programmes periodically.
